Earth's atmosphere

Mercury-Atlas 9 pilot L. Gordon Cooper Jr. observed small luminous white particles drifting from his spacecraft during the final Mercury mission in May 1963. The phenomena were later identified as reflections from beacon-related equipment with xenon strobe lights.
