Official Description

A 1968 report about UFO sightings in Ladakh, Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan. Seven UFO sightings are listed that took place between 19 Feb. to 25 Mar. 1968. A more redacted version of the report has been available on CIA's public website.

Key Findings

• →A huge metallic disc-shaped object with a six-foot base and four feet in height was found in a crater at Baltichaur, five miles NE of Pokhara, Nepal, following a sighting on 25 March 1968, with additional portions of a similar object found at Talakot and Turepasal.
• →On 19 February 1968 over Northeast Nepal, a fast-moving, long and thin object emitting red and green lights bright enough to cause daylight conditions was observed, accompanied by thunder sound.
• →On 21 February 1968 over Thimpu, Bhutan, a bluish-colored object moving at high speed without any noise was observed, bright enough to illuminate the surrounding area, with direction of flight possibly from Tibet.
• →On 25 March 1968 over Fukche, Koyul, and Demchok in Ladakh, a rocket-like object leaving a white-yellow trail approximately 20 yards long was observed at an altitude of 20,000-25,000 feet.
• →On 4 March 1968 at 1300 hours over Chang La, Fukche, and Koyul in Ladakh, a white light accompanied by two blasting sounds and a reddish light followed by white smoke was observed moving East to West.
