Official Description

This file contains imagery and a report documenting the circumstances surrounding a September 1, 2015, incident involving an unidentified object intruding the airspace above the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, Texas. The Pantex Plant is a sensitive national security site that contains the primary facility for the assembly, disassembly, maintenance, and life-extension of nuclear weapons. Pages 5 and 6 of this report were originally released under the PURSUE initiative in a more redacted form on May 22, 2026. (See: DOE-UAP-D001, Enhanced Pantex Imagery)

Key Findings

• →The Pantex Ground Surveillance Radar (GSR) first detected the object at approximately 0708 hours on September 1, 2015, approximately 1.75 miles SW of Z-12 South, traveling at 10-15 mph in a northerly trajectory.
• →A PF Lieutenant and SPO who observed the object through binoculars described it as a 'diamond' type shape, more round at the top, approximately 4 ft. tall and 2 ft. wide at the bottom, and reported that it made no sound and had no identifiable propulsion system.
• →Security Police Officers in a Bearcat equipped with a CROWS camera tracked the object at 100-200 ft. above ground from approximately 75-100 meters away for 3-5 minutes.
• →Witness descriptions of the object's color were inconsistent, with some personnel reporting it as black and others describing it as silver, red, and blue.
• →All evidence including statements, video, and imagery was turned over to an FBI agent, and video from the GSR tower was sent to Sandia National Labs for enhancement and further study.
