UAP News Briefing — Sunday, May 17, 2026

The Pentagon's ongoing declassification efforts continued to dominate UAP discourse, with Rep. Luna announcing that 40+ classified videos from the Department of War have completed review and will be released in coming weeks. A Navy F/A-18 pilot's two-year tracking of an unidentified cube-shaped object off Virginia Beach, documented in testimony and recently declassified by the Pentagon, remains officially unidentified. The Ukrainian military reported detecting multiple UAPs during conflict with Russia exhibiting high-speed acceleration and anomalous flight characteristics. Rep. Burlison revealed the White House contacted him requesting favorable comments on video releases without advance congressional briefing, raising questions about coordination of disclosure efforts. Historical declassified documents from 1953 and 1955 surfaced showing Cold War-era government interest in UFO narrative control and civilian reports of extraterrestrial contact claims.
